Hello, everyone. As someone who was in China a month ago, I'd like to share what I know to ensure my health.
First of all, China had laws against people gathering, against leaving home without wearing a mask, and required people with fever to be quarantined in a hospital and tested for the virus(people in the affected areas were not even allowed to leave their homes, and there were volunteers to deliver packages, vegetables, fruits and meat to their doorsteps.)So, as a normal, healthy person, I went to the supermarket once every two days and pressed the elevator button with the tissue provided in the elevator as I get on and off. Then after I got home, I hang my coat and mask under the sun, washed hands, and disinfect my phone before touching anything else in my home (because viruses are said to survive for more than a dozen hours on a smooth metal surface).
Secondly, I never touch my eyes, nose or mouth before I wash my hands.
Finally, when I traveled on public transport outside China, I wore a mask all the time. (Because you cannot know where the people around you have been and who they have met.) But in other public places, if everyone doesn't wear a mask, I don't wear one. I just stayed away from the coughing people and got out of the crowd as quickly as possible. (I don't wear a mask in some public places to avoid panic. )
Actually, my family works in hospitals, so I used to wear a mask during flu season and on public transport (I had poor immunity as a child, so I always pay attention to these hygiene habits). So I believe most of people in Australia will be okay. I hope we can all be healthy and happy.
PS.
Two students I know had a fever last month and sneaked into the airport to try to get back to Australia. But they were reported by a person on the same flight, and the police took them to the hospital for quarantine and virus detection (the treatment and detection of the virus are free for those with fever). In fact, the railways, buses and highways were all closed in China, and residents of China were not allowed to travel to other cities with no reason . There were no cars on the road except for the hospital vehicles, police vehicles, electric vehicles and food transport vehicles that had to be on the road. In addition, people with a fever are not allowed to travel by public transport in China. So it is illegal for a patient with a fever to sneak into the airport without going to the hospital for treatment(that's why police took them to the hospital).
I think Australian airports should also check the temperature of passengers and ask people with fever to isolate themselves or get a virus test.
